    V is for Villain

One of my greatest writing pleasures is meeting a new villain! They are some of my most favorite people in all of fiction – books, movies, tv shows. So much so that I used to have a problem with my antagonists overshadowing the main characters. If anyone has ever found themselves in a similar situation, we fix that pairing the villains with more interesting “heroes.” People who are just as fascinating, if not more. In my current project, who the “bad guy” is a little harder to decipher than usual. Dare I say, I don’t have a “bad guy” in the story at all! It’s a matter of interpretation, of course,…

Dance of the Queue Fairy – Part Two

My story backlog has gotten pretty ridiculous thanks to spending a great deal of time in a neurotic sweat hut. It’s been hard for me to focus, but I found a quote the other day that said, “Motivation comes from within.” Which means, only I could find it. So, I did. Thanks largely to my family putting up with my mood swings and giving me copious amounts of hugs. ^_^ Right now, of course, I’m working on “Winter’s Siren” – a retelling of a classic tale that is going well and should be done by the end of this month! More deets on the inspiration at a later date. I worried that this…

    The Blank Page

A few weeks back, I was talking to a poetry writing friend of mine, and she told me how much she loves a fresh, blank page. She sees that blank page and sees the possibilities. It’s freedom. It’s malleable. It could be anything. I see a blank page and I see a brick wall. There are too many possibilities! It’s overwhelming! It’s chaotic! Now, I can understand the blank page love a little. I do love breaking in a new composition book. 💜 It’s freedom! But a blank page on the screen? This is part of why I type my outlines up before I start. Sure, I don’t have to, but then…

    Dance of the Setting Fairy

Not too long ago I posted about real life settings versus fictional settings. I’m on a real life setting kick right now. 🙂 In “Legion” we’re in pseudo-present day Asheville, North Carolina. I love Asheville. So, it’s not surprisingly (to myself) that we find ourselves in NC once more in “The Puppet Box” – this time in Winston-Salem on their very own Wake Forest University campus. Outside of mentioning a couple of real places around campus and their real mascot, everything else is made up. For example, I have a “Sorority Row” and a “Fraternity Row.” There is no such thing on that campus. ^_^ Now, I didn’t set out to…

    Dance of the Queue Fairy

So, I mentioned last week, I think, how I’ve already picked out the story to follow “The Puppet Box.” If you happened to stroll through the sidebar or the Writing Projects Garden, you will have seen it already, one working title “Winter’s Siren” aka “Songbird.” 😀 Yeah, I know, after all the hoop-la I spit about picking a next idea super early, I’ve gone and done it again. Well, if I don’t write this story I’ll die!! (Disclaimer: Krystal Jane is just being dramatic.)  Given how long it takes some of my ideas to grow into something writeable, I figured, why not force all super shiny ideas to the back…
