    Melodrama Llama

After I finished the first draft of my current story, I thought it would be fun, in true me fashion, to pull up some of my older stories and read a few snippets to entertain myself. My samples of choice? The opening line/paragraph. The beginning of a chapter in the middle somewhere. The end of a chapter in the middle somewhere. And the middle of a chapter in the middle somewhere. ^_^ For starters, it’s amazing how consistently bad (or great) I can be. But more amazing than that, is how well these snippets represented the stories as a whole. If I felt like the story was pretty strong throughout,…

Once There Was An Inspiration Ramble

Do you remember how you felt when you got your first idea for a novel? Was it a lightning bolt of inspiration that jolted you into action? Or was it a dull cloudy day that you can barely even remember and you just kind of stumbled into it unintentionally? When I wrote my first novel, I wasn’t particularly inspired by anything. I think it was summer. I remember telling my sister about it on a Saturday while we waited for our turn at the salon. I just wanted to try writing a book. As I was twelve, I’m sure you can imagine how great it is. 🙂 Being that I was…

    Tripping Down Memory Lane :)

Last weekend, I decided to go through my email archives to see if I could find the story notes my first writing buddy sent me on a story I wrote back in 2008. This I do instead of writing. Lol! I was trying to remember something random she said about a side character. I ended up combing through quite a few of her notes and reading through parts of story, and I started feeling agitated by how bad it was. Then I get to a scene where this girl and guy kiss for the first time – not the first time she kissed someone in the book – I skipped over that…

    Anniversary Extraordinaire

This month not only represents the anniversary of my first ever finished novel, but it’s also my blog’s anniversary: three years at the end of the month! Also, I passed 200 posts not too long ago, so Yay. 🙂 I’d thought I’d celebrate by sharing an excerpt from my very first novel!! Only, I can’t read it without laughing. Also, like, why would I do that to people? It’s so bad. So instead, I’m going to bring you an excerpt from the very first novel I queried! Yay. Lol! This was a vampire story. Most of my stuff before 2008 are. The concept was that a girl with a terminal…

The Number 17 & Two Year Blogoversary!

Nope, this isn’t an episode of Sesame Street. Okay, let’s get it out of our system though: (in the voice of the vampire puppet, whatshisface, “Seventeen! There are seventeen street lamps!” ^_^ No, it’s my 17th Year Anniversary of my very first completed novel attempt!!! So to celebrate, I’m going to do the impossible, choose a top 3 favorite from two categories: pre-college finished novels and post-college finished AND unfinished novels. (And to make things harder on myself, I’m going to put the one story I finished during college in the pre-category because of the length – which was too short.) And this was really hard. Especially in the first category…
