    Dance of the Setting Fairy

Not too long ago I posted about real life settings versus fictional settings. I’m on a real life setting kick right now. 🙂 In “Legion” we’re in pseudo-present day Asheville, North Carolina. I love Asheville. So, it’s not surprisingly (to myself) that we find ourselves in NC once more in “The Puppet Box” – this time in Winston-Salem on their very own Wake Forest University campus. Outside of mentioning a couple of real places around campus and their real mascot, everything else is made up. For example, I have a “Sorority Row” and a “Fraternity Row.” There is no such thing on that campus. ^_^ Now, I didn’t set out to…

    Dance of the Queue Fairy

So, I mentioned last week, I think, how I’ve already picked out the story to follow “The Puppet Box.” If you happened to stroll through the sidebar or the Writing Projects Garden, you will have seen it already, one working title “Winter’s Siren” aka “Songbird.” 😀 Yeah, I know, after all the hoop-la I spit about picking a next idea super early, I’ve gone and done it again. Well, if I don’t write this story I’ll die!! (Disclaimer: Krystal Jane is just being dramatic.)  Given how long it takes some of my ideas to grow into something writeable, I figured, why not force all super shiny ideas to the back…

    More Adventures In Writing Land

For me, finding the right character to lead my story is usually the easy part. If they don’t come with the idea, they show up soon after to lead the way. But you know how things go in Story Land – every story is different. I had a character that I’d been trying to find a story for, and I’d been trying for 3 years!! Around springtime, 2013, I put out a call for a “normal” person, and Riley showed up. And by normal, I mean no special abilities, no superhuman traits. Just a regular freaking girl that you can find in any mall in America. A lot of my…

    Once Upon A Story…

So, I’m working on a top secret project entitled: “Once There Was Chaos” – not the actual working title, but I really kind of like it! The real working title is a secret known only to the inner circle. Yup, I’m being THAT crazy about it. Because if I tell you my actual working title, you might be able to read between the lines and figure out what I’m doing!! Lol! In any case, I can say this: I’m finally doing a retelling, after trying and falling on my face for at least three years now, probably three and a half. I probably talked about it before, but once upon a…

    A Dip Into Organization Land

So, I went on record that 2015 was a pretty depressing year for writing. It’s the first year I didn’t finish a single project since I got off a 2 year accidental writing hiatus in 2011. And I spent a lot of time beating myself up for that. The thing is, if I had just stopped beating myself up, it wouldn’t have taken me so long to find a project I could stick with. I was just shoving things down my throat until I vomited story all over the place. And it was during that recovery period that the right ideas found me. Ideas I’ve had for months, mind you.…
