Writing Anniversaries & Official Blurb Unveiling

July is anniversary month at The Narcissistic Rose Café for two reasons: One: It’s the month designated for celebrating my first completed novel – not because it’s the actual month I finished – I actually have no idea when that was – but I remember working on it the summer of 1996, and I know it was finished by the end of winter, because by then, I was working on novel attempt #2, which I not only didn’t finished but also ripped to shreds and then lost. 😀 Two: It’s the blog’s 6th birthday. My first post was on July 21, 2012. Happy Blog-oversary! 🙂 During anniversary month, I like…

    Indie Publishing Update

It’s been a while since my last publishing update, so it’s update time! 😀 First, my KDP Select (Kindle Unlimited) Experience. To start, launching in KU versus enrolling post launch, in my experience, resulted in a whole lot more page reads. That said, there is a 30 day drop off across the board, unless the book is just a rockstar or something. Also, I didn’t have a lot of crossover reads. It’s hard to tell between my first two books since I put them in at the same time, but when I launched WHISPER, WINTER’S SIREN, for example got zero post launch page reads, and NO REST FOR THE WICKED…

    Opening Chapter Woes

First chapters are hard sometimes. As a general rule of thumb, I don’t start drafting until I know where the story starts. Things can always change, and they sometimes do, but it’ll get me in the right direction, you know. With the current drafting project, I had an intro in mind, then decided it would make a better flashback scene later, especially since I have the perfect in. So, then I was like, “I guess we’re starting in the present.” It was the most exciting place to start the story, and I knew how to get things going from there, as well. BUT the way I was starting it was…

    Staying Focused and Such

One day, people, one day I will get through an entire novel without having some kind of crisis. Yes? I’ll wait patiently over there while you laugh hysterically. So, here’s what happened. Long story short, it’s because I don’t have an outline for this story. Usually, by this point in the process, I have a finished outline. But nope, I’ve decided to write dangerously. Just me and my notes and my brain and my flow chart thingie that I haven’t bothered to look at. At the same time, I do know where the story is going, so I don’t really need an outline. But it’s very true that I wouldn’t…

Utopia Con 2017: Book Haul & Panels ^_^

GUYS! I got shiny pictures! ^_^ First we have a gorgeous couple of pictures from my hotel window. This is outside the Airport Marriott in Nashville. Pretty Tennessee trees. 😀 Next up is a shiny UTOPIA Con bag. Came with a free novella and a fan that plugs into smart phones. ^_^ I somehow miraculously made it in time for the keynote, but it was super short, so sad to say, I barely remember anything. Plus I missed a bit of it because I had to pee and they started a little early. This next picture is some greenery I ran into across from the hotel entrance. I took notes…
