Cover Reveal: Garden of Ravens Edition

Still getting things together, but the cover is done and I didn’t want to wait to spread it around! ^_^ When it came time to get a cover together for my first poetry collection, I knew what I wanted in theory. But poetry books aren’t often very elaborate. They’re mostly simple with a lot of negative space. It probably goes without saying, but a typical cover wasn’t going to work for me. Luckily, I have a designer who knows what she’s doing, and she was able to talk me into a happy medium between something plainer and something that would grace the cover of a paranormal book. ^_^ I wanted…

    Unofficial Poetry Styles

Disclaimer: 😀 I took one poetry class in college, for half a semester, and received a B, points off for being difficult, like when I argued that all haikus didn’t have to literally be about nature. I stand behind everything 19-year-old me said. I’m not a poetry expert, but it’s fun to talk about stuff, so this is my understanding of poetry and the verbiage I use to describe different aspects of it. 🙂 Style 1 – Formed/Traditional Things don’t have to be uniform, but formed poems have a clear pattern, sometimes rhyme, and usually make some kind of sense without having to try too hard. Here you have your…

Adventures In Formatting A Poetry Book

Guys, I was in FORMATTING HELL last week!! Poetry is a beast messily slain for I had dull spears to fight with. 😛 One dull spear being the editing one, because I have legit never really edited poetry in my life. Sure, I sometimes change a line or two, but I’ve never rewritten that crap before. It was a good experience though, and I learned some things, mostly about myself. Lol! Creatively speaking, things have been at a standstill the last few weeks because I’ve been stressed about formatting the poetry book. I finally talked myself into sitting down one afternoon and figuring it out. It took me several hours…

    March Reads & Other Updates

So, I didn’t do a lot of reading last month. For anyone who missed it, I’m back in my writing chair and juggling three projects (the poetry book and two paranormal projects and I’m having a blast), and I also decided to stop making to-do lists because frankly, I don’t care how much I get done anymore. Lately, caring has made me less productive, because I get stressed and then curl into a ball and do nothing. This isn’t to say I don’t give myself reminders. I still need those. And I also still have a TBR of books I want to read soon-ish, but that isn’t stressful. It’s flexible,…

    Poetry Writing Update

The poetry book is coming along! I’m in the final pass before formatting, making last minute changes and getting rid of stray lines I don’t like. I can’t say I LOVE everything in the collection, but I like everything, so that’s good. ^_^ The next step is to decide on some design elements. I have vague ideas of what I want. I don’t really like random sketches in my poetry books, so I’m not doing that. The plan is some kind of decorative thing to lead into each section, and then some kind of picture at the end of each section. I’ll be making decisions this weekend, I hope. I…
