    It’s NaNoWriMo Time: Press Start

For NaNo this year, I’m tackling a supernatural horror story. It’s not something super new for me, but what IS new is my protagonist. I have my very first morally ambiguous MC. And not only that, in all my years of writing, I’ve NEVER had an MC start the story with a boyfriend, unless she was getting dumped on the first page. I’ve never had a pet. I’ve never had a parent that actually played an essential role (in this case, the parent is majorly essentially to my girl’s character development.) And I’ve never had a snotty MC. At least not one I actually liked and didn’t end up changing. It’s also…

The Pre-NaNoWriMo Party Post & Post-Reading Freak Out

The Pre-Party & Mock Cover Pimp First on the agenda, here are the two best (of 10) mock covers I made for my NaNoWriMo story, a supernatural/horror with a mentally defunct MC, courtesy of PicMonkey.com and DeviantArt.com. ^_^ The original artwork are both by this awesome artist seen here: My Solitary Ground. I was so lucky to find these. I’ve seen other writers do this on Pinterest, but I’ve never been enough for visual aids to put forth the effort. However, I came across a Pinterest page so awesome, it made a believer out of me, and I knew I had to try it. I needed to rest my wrist and brain…

    Ode To Names

I haven’t written a horror story in a little while, but I’m going to try and tackle the beast during this year’s NaNoWriMo. If you’re doing NaNo and want an extra buddy, I’m “katci13”. ^_^ How long I’m in the preplanning process varies from story to story, but hands down, the longest part of any of this is picking names. I stockpile names. I have a long, long list of old, old names I collected in middle school and high school, and I have a much shorter list of names on my computer AND on my phone. (Though recently, and I am so not joking, that particular note has been…

    On Speed-Writing…

Poetry Corner is preempted this month to bring you this awesomefied list. With NaNoWriMo around the corner, I thought this would be a good time to post this since October is often NaNo planning month. ^^ I’ll be there, crazy project idea in hand! Anyone planning to join me? ^^ Preamble: Despite the fact that I regularly post up a ton of words when I’m drafting, my first NaNo trek fell horribly and embarrassingly short. (That’s what I get for going into last year so cocky, I guess.) But it was nothing if not a learning experience, so I’ve compiled a list of things I do to stay focused in…

    NaNoWrimo Update #3

Third and last NaNoWriMo update. At this point, I’ll need to write 6000 words a day to meet the 50,000 words goal. That’s not going to happen. I’m happy with my progress and I hope to get several thousand more words penned before the month is up, but I failed my first NaNo attempt. Which is not unsurprising. Usually my highest word counts come at the end. I’m see the finish line and I do everything I can to get there ahead of schedule. Right now, I’m barely to the middle of my story. I know I can write 50,000 words in 4 weeks, I do it all the time,…
