    #ARCSAREFREE Debacle

Okie dokie: Rare Extra Post I don’t know if anyone saw this circulating on Twitter around the end of May. I only found out about it on YouTube over the weekend. I’m not plugged into AuthorTube “Tea” so I had no idea this was going on. If you hadn’t heard about it, I’ll summarize: There is an author who is only offering ARCs to Patrons who are subscribed to her $50 tier on Patreon for at least 3 months – essentially “charging” $150 for ARCs and guaranteeing any early reviews she gets on any book will be biased as hell. My personal opinion on this is: I don’t give a…

    Editing Mania

Dudes…line edits are no joke. I did get used to all the notes after a few chapters, thank goodness, but that hasn’t made them any less overwhelming to look at. That said, I do have a nice pace going, and most importantly, I’m still excited about my story. 😀 Apparently I had a huge em-dash problem going on. I have spaces around all of them, and sometimes I need to replace them with an ellipses or a comma or vice versa. There’s also a lot of axing around my dialogue tags. Of course there is other fun stuff: some comma stuff. Some adding, deleting, and rearranging of sentences, and thinking,…

    Warning: Class 5 YA Rant

I don’t remember when this was, but a while back, I was reading a blog post in which the author of said post was going on and on about how they were writing their first story in the “adult” category (having previously only written young adult) and what a relief it was not to have to “hold back” anymore. Hold back as in, “Yay, now I can cuss like a sailor!” <— I’m not joking. That is seriously what they meant. Like really? Read much? I can’t say I’ve read a TON of YA that has “bad” language in it, but I have. I am, in fact, reading one right…

On Covers & Romantic Plot Lines

Let’s cut right to the chase: New Adult Romance. If I see another generic cover with some random brown-haired guy almost kissing some random girl (of any hair color, but to be honest, they all look the same)…well, there is no good way to end this sentence. I’ve read a LOT of historical romance, folks. And I don’t have a single book on my shelf that has people canoodling each other on the (front) cover. Definitely, sometimes, on the inside cover, but not the front. Because I won’t pick up books like that. Because it gets OLD. I see a lot of covers sometimes, and I really can’t be sure if the…

    O is for Overthinking

This public service announcement is brought to you in honor of the A to Z blogging challenge. ^_^ walks into room. coughs into sleeve STOP You are not doing yourself any favors by thinking things to death. This happens a lot in the writing world. You’re going about your business, and all of a sudden you think, “I wonder if it’s okay for my main character to do this. Are people still going to like her after this? Is she being weak right now? Is it okay for him to save her? I don’t want people to think that I think girls are weak and can’t save themselves.” You know…
