The Graveyard of Crap I Need To Rewrite

Haha. I’ve come to conclusion that I am being haunted by old projects, so I’m going to talk about what is haunting me and my plan to remedy this situation. Anything that I wrote before 2007 is off the table. This isn’t to say that I’ll never rewrite any of those. I’m only saying that none of those projects are haunting me. Also off the table are any partially finished projects. Most of these are not far enough along to haunt me anyway, and I don’t really consider them to be “unfinished.” They’re more like “ideas-in-progress.” Unfinished to me means I left loose ends everywhere, and ideas-in-progress don’t have loose…

Stories Based On Dreams Based On Stories

Ever write a story based on a dream you had? I tried a time or two. Once I had a dream that I was a mermaid who came on land after my human mother was kidnapped by some dudes and held for ransom. Sounds pretty awesome right? čśÉ Lol! I got one chapter in and gave up. It made zero sense. Why did they kidnap her? And how the crap am I a mermaid if BOTH of my parents are human? Yeah, they were BOTH human. My dreams make so much sense. Another time I tried to incorporate a couple of dreams into a story about past lives. I realized…

    The Pool of Companion Novels

It’s established that I’m not a series kind of writer. I’m also not a companion novel kind of writer.┬áThat said, I do have some linked ideas in the pot now that I would love to write, and if I get the first one off the ground, it’ll be that much easier, I think, to write and link the rest. So, that’s what I’m going to try and explain to myself today. Haha. The first story is called “Once There Was Chaos.” I’ve mentioned it before in a setting fairy post, I think. It’s part horror story, part fairy tale I made up in the car one day. I have a…

Dance of the Queue Fairy – Part Two

My story backlog has gotten pretty ridiculous thanks to spending a great deal of time in a┬áneurotic sweat hut. It’s been hard for me to focus, but I found a quote the other day that said, “Motivation comes from within.” Which means, only I could find it.┬áSo, I did. Thanks largely to my family putting up with my mood swings and giving me copious amounts of hugs. ^_^ Right now, of course, I’m working on “Winter’s Siren” – a retelling of a classic tale that is going well┬áand should be done by the end of this month! More deets on the inspiration at a later date. I worried that this…

Genre Station: Next Stop – Ghost Town

When you look back over your life, you might find that it’s pretty easy to understand why you’re drawn to the genres you like to write. I distinctly remember a night when I was around five or so. My parents had friends over and they were watching “A Nightmare on Elm Street” – I think the first one. I remember sneaking downstairs, desperate to get a peek at Freddy. I don’t remember what I saw, I only remember climbing back into bed and staring at a sticker on my dresser of the Chuck E Cheese mouse and thinking it looked a lot like Freddy’s face in the dark. I was…
