Finding Writing Help In Unexpected Places

Earlier this month, I realized that the characters in my current project didn’t have jobs. The reason this happened is simple: the last time I hung out with these people they were teenagers. One of them had a job and was a college student, but that was it. And it occurred to me that I had no idea what kind of jobs they should even have. I knew I had a writer, but not the main character. So figuring that out was easy. There was only one other person it would fit, and it fits her perfectly. Hi, her name’s Devon and she’s an alcoholic. 🙂 Then I needed a…

    Project Juggling Update

A few weeks ago, or something, I mentioned how I was going to attempt to do all my editing during the day so I can draft and plan a different story at night. And I can honestly say that this is something that will work for me long term. One of the biggest things I like about editing during the day is that it’s easier to tell when my brain is tired. It’s easier to stop working and do something else. And it’s nice to be editing and not have to battle with mental and physical exhaustion. Not that I don’t mentally fatigue myself during the day. That still happens.…

    Personality Disorder

Firstly, there’s a fun WHISPER Interview up on Sunflower’s Blog. Go read it. ^_^ So, I’m an INTJ according to 16personalities.com – This makes me an architect, “imaginative and strategic.” ^_^ When I first heard of the test, via my brother, out of a book, I think, I don’t remember exactly what I got. I think it was INTP (which doesn’t fit as well as INTJ, unfortunately and honestly – because INTJs are a mess) – but all I know for sure was that I was offended. I didn’t like being called an “introvert” back then, you see. I didn’t realize how awesome we are until someone sent me a list…

    The Ever Evolving Writing Process

As with most writers, I have certain things that I like to do at different points in the writing process. That said, I’m not married to any of it. In fact, I may not even have a process. I take it story by story, because every story is different. They develop at different paces, and some are heavily externally inspired while some are almost entirely internally inspired. I guess you could say, I like to go with the flow. ^_^ This makes sense, because outside of writing, I’m rather resistant to going with the flow. LOL! In fact, do you want to hear something really gross? I already have a…

Talking To Your Characters & Such

Once upon a time, I told myself that I would never again work with a character who didn’t talk my ear off. Of course, sometimes a writer is weak. We get distracted by an idea so shiny it hurts just as bad not to write it as it does to write it. But this is exactly why I think my latest project “Whisper” will work out, even though it’s still super early. She talks to me. For example, she told me she didn’t like most of the songs I put on her story playlist. She’s totally right. I made that playlist for the YA version of the story, and it…
