    O is for Overthinking

This public service announcement is brought to you in honor of the A to Z blogging challenge. ^_^ walks into room. coughs into sleeve STOP You are not doing yourself any favors by thinking things to death. This happens a lot in the writing world. You’re going about your business, and all of a sudden you think, “I wonder if it’s okay for my main character to do this. Are people still going to like her after this? Is she being weak right now? Is it okay for him to save her? I don’t want people to think that I think girls are weak and can’t save themselves.” You know…

    Behold the Power of Fusion!

As some of you know, I’ve decided to juggle two stories. And it’s actually going well, as well as new projects go for me anyway. But when I first talked about it, writing buddy Karla said something about combining them! 😮 And I wondered…I knew it wouldn’t work because they’ve been in my head for months already. “Whisper” for over a year and Phantom Silence for about 8 months, but I played through it anyway to see what I would lose in each idea if I did (because once she mentioned it, I just couldn’t stop myself!) C is for Character Development

The Evolution of a Character Since I’ve been in shiny new idea city for a little while now, this has been on my mind a lot lately. And it got me thinking…is there a formula to this? Because sometimes I do this better than other times. So I want to look at the good times and document it for future reference. 🙂 I love examples, so let’s take a look at Petra. Final WIPMarathon Check-In (December/January)

Last week! Until next time. ^_^ Last Word Count + Chapter Count: 37977 words, Chapter 11 Current WC + CC: 55058 words, Chapter 18 WIP Issues this week: I had a rather difficult time with Chapter 15. I worked on it for about 4 hours. It was pretty painful. One of those moments that makes you think you really suck at this writing thing as it was spiraling into a mess. I finally just backtracked to the part where I thought I things started going wrong and rewrote it. Well, I rewrote it a couple of times. It’s the part of the story where one of my MCs is starting…

    R is for Rewrite

I used to think doing an overhaul and rewriting were the same things. They are not. I can’t be the only one who doesn’t know these fancy things, so today I’m going to define the both of them and go into a few reasons why you might want to go with one over the other. A rewrite is when you rewrite something. (Ha, ha!) Seriously, though, it’s a rewrite. It’s basically the same story, but you rewrite all or part of it from scratch to make it better. Reasons to do a rewrite include: -icky prose -chunky dialogue -to change a scene or seventeen that’s not working -to add a…
