Random Life Updates
So…I’m moving. I’m currently in a townhouse, and the plan is to move into a house with a manageable yard, even though I have zero intention to mow anything myself. In some ways, this was kind of a rash decision. I didn’t plan to move this year. When I started decluttering my house last month, it was specifically because I thought it would be at least another year before I moved, and I didn’t want to wait until then to start getting rid of stuff. But I have been wanting to move for two years, so actually, this was a totally un-rash decision. ^_^ I’m not exactly sure what part…

Finding Writing Help In Unexpected Places
Earlier this month, I realized that the characters in my current project didn’t have jobs. The reason this happened is simple: the last time I hung out with these people they were teenagers. One of them had a job and was a college student, but that was it. And it occurred to me that I had no idea what kind of jobs they should even have. I knew I had a writer, but not the main character. So figuring that out was easy. There was only one other person it would fit, and it fits her perfectly. Hi, her name’s Devon and she’s an alcoholic. 🙂 Then I needed a…

Writing Life: Experimentation Files
Sometimes when I’m in an experimenting mood I feel like I take it too far. Like, a story set 1000 years in the future sounds super fun! But sometimes it’s too much at once. I get overwhelmed and then curl into a ball and quit. So I decided to try experimenting in a different kind of way. It’s not that I feel like I can’t write a story set in the future. It’s that I need to figure out how to do that without getting overwhelmed. I have a story set 500 years in the future, I think, and tackling all the world building was fun, but it was also…

Story Life: Finding The Right Intro
I didn’t finish any of the books I’m reading this month, so I’m going to talk about writing instead. ^_^ So, the story I’m calling the current project has been a work-in-progress for a while. Sometimes, for fun, as part of my general writing process, I mess around and write a potential opening scene. It helps me get a feel for the characters and their voices and the world. Sometimes I get to keep this. Most times I don’t. For the current project, it was great for getting into the MC’s head and finding her voice and getting used to her personality, because she’s a strange one, but what I…

KonMari-ing My House
So, whilst I was waiting for my computer, which did come in on Friday, and she’s beautiful, I watched Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix and decided to declutter my entire house. Obviously, I was being too ambitious for my own good. BUT, I had already started decluttering my desk, so I was so ready to motivate myself to do more. 😀 The KonMari Method, as it’s called, suggests tidying up by category instead of location, and you start with clothing and that involves taking ALL the clothes out, from wherever they are, and putting them all in a single location. She says the KonMari Method isn’t about minimalism,…
