    Drafting Update & Publishing News

GUYS!! I am so excited!! 😀 So. First. Drafting update. I am finally at peace with what to work on next. As in, I haven’t had a crisis in over a week. ^_^ I’m not going to say more until I’m past the 25k, continue or dump it, mark, but I will say this: sometimes the project you need to work on actually isn’t the one that’s screaming the loudest. Sometimes, maybe even most times, perhaps even all the time, it’s the one quietly popping up in the background while you’re wrestling with the bunnies of a loud and obnoxious nature. Just saying. This year, the plot bunny field has…

Writing Anniversaries & Official Blurb Unveiling

July is anniversary month at The Narcissistic Rose Café for two reasons: One: It’s the month designated for celebrating my first completed novel – not because it’s the actual month I finished – I actually have no idea when that was – but I remember working on it the summer of 1996, and I know it was finished by the end of winter, because by then, I was working on novel attempt #2, which I not only didn’t finished but also ripped to shreds and then lost. 😀 Two: It’s the blog’s 6th birthday. My first post was on July 21, 2012. Happy Blog-oversary! 🙂 During anniversary month, I like…

    Indie Publishing Update

It’s been a while since my last publishing update, so it’s update time! 😀 First, my KDP Select (Kindle Unlimited) Experience. To start, launching in KU versus enrolling post launch, in my experience, resulted in a whole lot more page reads. That said, there is a 30 day drop off across the board, unless the book is just a rockstar or something. Also, I didn’t have a lot of crossover reads. It’s hard to tell between my first two books since I put them in at the same time, but when I launched WHISPER, WINTER’S SIREN, for example got zero post launch page reads, and NO REST FOR THE WICKED…

    A Eulogy for Past Projects

I read somewhere last week that when we have a lot of unfinished projects they can haunt us. Affect our focus. Scatter our brains. So, I’ve decided to just say “screw it” and give myself permission to not give a crap anymore. The stories will work out or they won’t. The rewrites will happen or they won’t. It’s just not that serious! Sometimes I pick up a project that’s been sitting for a while and find that the plot has changed. This isn’t a big deal if everything is gelling and making sense. It’s not a big deal if everything has changed for the better. It’s also not a big…

    Recently Read Rant

Guys, I finished a contemporary romance on Monday, and I’m pretty sure I haven’t read one 15 years or something. It’s called November 9, and it’s left me feeling depressed and uninspired. I haven’t wanted to write since picking it up. I have written. I just feel like everything’s been terrible. I think I found my Achilles heel. My kryptoninte. Drainer of my soul. Okay, I’m waxing dramatic, but I was mopey and angry afterwards. Now, granted, contemporary romance is not my thing. And it’s not a bad book. It’s well-written and the story had an interesting format that I’ve never seen before. I didn’t have a problem with any…
