    Writing Playlists & Such Things

Once upon a time, five years ago, I made a story playlist for the first time. It contained a whopping total of 7 songs, and I was obsessed with all of them. After that, I made playlists for every working project! They helped me focus, and I figured out how to add songs that helped me envision scenes and characters and songs that evoked emotions. But then, in 2017, I ended up with a playlist of 36 songs, and they haven’t done anything for me since. I think the reasoning for this is twofold. For one, they weren’t actually helping me with the story to begin with. When I look…

    In-Depth “Failure” Analysis

The latest edition to the Story Graveyard is indeed my 2019 NaNoWriMo project, also known as my third and final attempt at rewriting “The Puppet Box.” I said I would try “one more time.” I did. I’ve already mentioned that I’m doing nothing with it because I don’t want to do anything with it, but I want to talk a bit about why I think it fell on its face. Learn from the experience. ^_^ Reason One: I couldn’t figure out what MC Riley wanted past her surface wants, which made motivating her to do anything extremely difficult, because what she wanted was for things to stay the same. That’s…

November Reads & Final NaNoWriMo Tally

Hiya! Obviously, I didn’t get much reading done this month because of NaNoWriMo, which is totally okay, because as of this posting, I only have two books left to read for the year to meet my goal, and I’m sure I can manage that. 😀 I’m honestly surprised I got anything read this month. When I wasn’t writing or working or forcing myself to go to bed at a decent hour, I was binging Gotham on Netflix. ^_^ 57: Manga Classics: Dracula Author: Bram Stoker, Adapted by: Stacy King, Illustrated by: Virginia Nitouhei Genre: Manga, Horror Rating: 5 stars Reviewed: Yes So satisfying!! I hadn’t read this in so long,…

    Updated Rewriting Plans & NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo is underway, so I have a nearly mid-month word count update below. 😀 I wanted to talk about rewriting again, because it’s relevant to the work-in-progress. ^_^ I woke up one day with a solution to the larger “Puppet Box” issues! Just like BOOM. Solved. 😛 Actually, I had a dream the night before that I was a werewolf, and I was all stressed because I was trying to hide it from my neighbors so they wouldn’t try to kill me, but my guide was all like, “No, you’re hiding so you don’t have to kill them.” And for some reason there was this super creepy Santa-thing in a…

Let’s Talk About Being A Miserable Writer

All right. I’ve tried four times now to write this post without it being super long, so let’s try a different approach. 😀 For starters, I changed projects and signed it up for NaNoWriMo. I’m not typically a fast starter, so this might not go well, but I’m doing a rewrite, like a complete, from scratch, rewrite so maybe that will help? I signed up with this project in 2015, but didn’t end up participating because I couldn’t get myself together. I’m 100% ready to start this time, but we’ll see. For the official record: working name of the project is “The Inescapable.” Version one was written early 2016, and…
