    In-Depth “Failure” Analysis

The latest edition to the Story Graveyard is indeed my 2019 NaNoWriMo project, also known as my third and final attempt at rewriting “The Puppet Box.” I said I would try “one more time.” I did. I’ve already mentioned that I’m doing nothing with it because I don’t want to do anything with it, but I want to talk a bit about why I think it fell on its face. Learn from the experience. ^_^ Reason One: I couldn’t figure out what MC Riley wanted past her surface wants, which made motivating her to do anything extremely difficult, because what she wanted was for things to stay the same. That’s…

The Writer I Was Ten Years Ago…

Over the weekend, I was cleaning up my Stories folder, because I decided to finally and officially move “Discord” and another story called “How Deep Is My Darkness” to the Story Graveyard. If I’m not going to publish them, as is, and I’m not, then there’s no reason to keep them in the same folder as stories that are actually finished. The reason it took me so long to move them is twofold: First: They weren’t in horrible shape, and at the time, I had literally trashed every single story I had ever written, and I don’t know. I guess I just thought it was sad. So I didn’t trash…

First Lines & Opening Sentences: Anniversary Edition

You’re in for a treat today! In celebration of the month I finished my first ever novel project – 21 years ago – I’m embarrassing the crap out of myself by pulling out the opening sentences of some old projects and displaying them for your enjoyment, because we all need a good laugh sometimes. 😀 Note: Unless otherwise stated, the stories have a contemporary/modern-day or near-future setting. If the story is finished, I’ll put the date, otherwise it’ll just be marked as abandoned. 😅 Untitled First Novel (romance?) – circa 1997 “Beep! Beep! Beep!” I turned off my alarm clock and opened my eyes. I looked around my room. Analysis…

    Melodrama Llama

After I finished the first draft of my current story, I thought it would be fun, in true me fashion, to pull up some of my older stories and read a few snippets to entertain myself. My samples of choice? The opening line/paragraph. The beginning of a chapter in the middle somewhere. The end of a chapter in the middle somewhere. And the middle of a chapter in the middle somewhere. ^_^ For starters, it’s amazing how consistently bad (or great) I can be. But more amazing than that, is how well these snippets represented the stories as a whole. If I felt like the story was pretty strong throughout,…

    Anniversary Extraordinaire

This month not only represents the anniversary of my first ever finished novel, but it’s also my blog’s anniversary: three years at the end of the month! Also, I passed 200 posts not too long ago, so Yay. 🙂 I’d thought I’d celebrate by sharing an excerpt from my very first novel!! Only, I can’t read it without laughing. Also, like, why would I do that to people? It’s so bad. So instead, I’m going to bring you an excerpt from the very first novel I queried! Yay. Lol! This was a vampire story. Most of my stuff before 2008 are. The concept was that a girl with a terminal…
