Release Day Party: Garden of Ravens

Poetry book is out today!! 😀 To celebrate, I thought it would be fun to go over the different sections and talk about them or whatever. ^_^ I organized things in a way that I thought would make sense or at least a way that made sense in my head. If you’ve been around the cafe for a while or have read any of my books, you might recognize a few poems, as everything that’s published on this blog or in a novel are also in this book. That might account for maybe ten poems, but they’re here. I’ve mentioned that I write song lyrics for fun sometimes, so some…

    Unofficial Poetry Styles

Disclaimer: 😀 I took one poetry class in college, for half a semester, and received a B, points off for being difficult, like when I argued that all haikus didn’t have to literally be about nature. I stand behind everything 19-year-old me said. I’m not a poetry expert, but it’s fun to talk about stuff, so this is my understanding of poetry and the verbiage I use to describe different aspects of it. 🙂 Style 1 – Formed/Traditional Things don’t have to be uniform, but formed poems have a clear pattern, sometimes rhyme, and usually make some kind of sense without having to try too hard. Here you have your…

    Poetry Writing Update

The poetry book is coming along! I’m in the final pass before formatting, making last minute changes and getting rid of stray lines I don’t like. I can’t say I LOVE everything in the collection, but I like everything, so that’s good. ^_^ The next step is to decide on some design elements. I have vague ideas of what I want. I don’t really like random sketches in my poetry books, so I’m not doing that. The plan is some kind of decorative thing to lead into each section, and then some kind of picture at the end of each section. I’ll be making decisions this weekend, I hope. I…

    February Reads: 2019 Edition

OMG, you guys!!! This was like such a good month for reading! I mean, I had to Dnf a book and replace it with something else, because I am not about that struggling-to-read life! But yeah, nine more books read, and I’m so excited. 😀 10: The Giving Tree Author: Shel Silverstein Genre: Picture Book Rating: 5 stars Reviewed: No I remember reading this years ago and thinking it was the most depressing thing ever. Still, I loved it then, and I still find it strangely enjoyable to read now. 11: The Wicked Deep Author: Shea Ernshaw Genre: YA Paranormal Romance Rating: 5 stars Reviewed: No Do not ask me…

    Tripping Down Shakespearean Lane

Today I want to chat a little bit about the creative literary genius known as William Shakespeare – one of the finest poets to ever walk the earth. One of the things I love most about him was his ability to weave hidden commentary in just about everything he wrote. The comedy The Taming of Shrew for example has some sinister underlying themes about control and conforming to society. Everyone is laughing, but underneath the silly, lighthearted overtones is a wild independent girl who is being conspired against and dragged down into the cookie cutter mold of society. A simple switch in tone, and this play would be quite alarming! In the comedy A…
