Novel #18 & Inspiration Dump
I FINISHED, I FINISHED!! ๐
Happy Dance Time!!
I finished Saturday night. I could have finished Thursday – I did about 4500 words that night. But then it was midnight and I was tired, so I went to sleep. I also had a headache, which continued on to Friday. Couple that with insomnia-inspired exhaustion, and I just watched Goosebumps all night, because it’s nostalgic and awesome. LOL! I blame the heat mixed with dehydration and seeing a movie that flashed too many lights in my face. Ugh.
Now, I need to brainstorm an official title! Come on, brain! LOL!
So, I did something weird at the end of the story. It wasn’t planned. It just “felt right.” Maybe it’ll stick out. We’ll see, but I really like it. ๐ I’m at around 74k. Nothing I’m going to pitch a fit about.
But yes, it is number 18. I thought it was number 19, but apparently, I counted an unfinished once and one story twice so whatever. Anyway, this is very exciting! So much more exciting than the last two things I finished, so that makes this extra exciting. ๐ I finally wrote something I’m really happy with, after two years. ๐ฎ
In plot bunny news, I left the movie theatre with a WICKED awesome idea. It wasn’t the movie – Now You See Me 2 (which was fine, not great).ย No. It was this song playing after the movie was over. Something about it nudged one of the sleeping beasts in my brain.ย I had like a massive inspiration dump that had me typing notes into my phone like a crazy person. It was freaking awesome. Whole freaking story (almost) in my head. I has a good feeling about it, but of course it’s way too early to tell.
I have another month with novel 18, at least, so who knows what will be going on with this story by then. But I am VERY excited about it. I haven’t been that excited at conception in a long, long time. I think this is special. It’ll be something a little different for me, maybe, if I have the proper skills. Still paranormal, cause you know, that is where I live. But like a paranormal with some thriller elements maybe?ย I don’t know. But I have backstories, scenes, and an entire plot that I got in under an hour. It has that “feeling.” ๐
But you know how things go sometimes, head’s full of adorable plot bunnies, so I’ll let them have a friendly competitive sparring competition amongst themselves whilst I edit.ย ๐ There’s no point in trying to commit to anything this early. Back in April, I was supposed to be working on I don’t know what, then I finally got the ending to “Legion” together, so I did that instead. Which, is actually a really fitting working title. Much more fitting than I originally thought. But still, I need something better than that. Plus, that word kind of creeps me out. Haha.
My original plan was to have it in query shape – should I lose my mind ๐ – by September. However, Pitch Wars is in August, thoughย it’s hard to get excited about it as I’ve done it twice now. But if I can finish things up by then without stressing myself out, then I’ll enter and watch the happy people celebrate two weeks later like I always do. ๐ That leaves me with 6 weeks to edit it a few times, get some kind of feedback, and write a query letter and a synopsis, but not in that order. Doable, I think, based on past stories.
Total time with this story so far is 3.5 months, including the month I worked on it last year and assuming I picked it back up in the beginning of April, which is close enough. I typically tend to edit for about a month. So, the timing should work out if I don’t slack off too much. ๐
BUT not thinking about that now. Thinking about shiny newly drafted story!! Happy sigh. ๐
Okay, congratulate me. LOL! ๐

Congrats! YAY, you finished!!!! So happy for you!
I’m in Chapter 13 land, because 12 was a bitch to write–it took weeks because I couldn’t figure out how to get point a to point b. But 13 is back to more drama (yay!), so it’ll be easier to write.

Thank you!! ^_^

Yippee! I’m eating cheese right now to celebrate with you. =) (I really am.) We must be on the same timeline because I finished last night with the epilogue. Granted, this wasn’t a first draft, but it was a MAJOR rewrite that took about two months around all the fun of family and car drama. (Because Michelle is talking about drama, I figure I better too.) ๐ About one more month of fine tuning, and I’ll be sending my baby off to the editor. *gulp* Crazy times, eh?
