Diary: MONTH THREE
Did not do much, I have to say. I did poke at the work-in-progress some, but mostly I wrapped myself in a blanket and binged on Netflix and Hulu. Somewhere in here I got my line edits in the old inbox. In typically me fashion, I skimmed over my notes and thought, “No problem. Piece of cake.”
I’m clearly a comedian in disguise. Of course, now that it’s over, I’m like, “I could do that again.” LOL!
Diary: WEEK SEVENTEEN
Finished up line edits this week. I would like to declare that I’m going to pace myself better next time, but we all know I’ll do no such thing. 😀 I do hope to enjoy the process more next time. I think I just got really tired of cutting dialogue tags and breaking up long sentences. And the amount of time I made the same two mistakes over and over was really starting to grate on my nerves. God bless editors, right?
Diary: WEEK EIGHTEEN
Finally got back to the work-in-progress this week. I thought it would be super difficult because it’s been about a month since I’d even really looked at. But once I reread the previous chapter to reorient myself, I was pulled immediately back in. Though I still spent about fifteen minutes typing very slow until the writer wheels got turning in my head again.
I realized why I like outlining so much. I like knowing what’s coming up next. I feel like I’m writing on a typewriter in the dark sometimes with this. It’s working for the story, and I still have a tiny, baby outline below the draft that I whip up as I finish each scene, but it’s not the same. That said, I’m not going to start outlining now. I still think it’s best to write this particular story this way for some reason. But I think it’s slowing me down considerably. That said, I did cross the 25k mark this week!
The story makes me so happy for some reason. There’s something so nostalgic and otherworldly about it. 🙂
Diary: WEEK NINETEEN
If my calculations are correct, this is the current week. Haha. My editor told me going in that there would be two rounds of proofreading, one by her and one by her colleague. Still, color me surprised when a document needing proofing showed up in my inbox over the weekend. I really enjoyed it though. There was a lot of laughing at myself and getting ALL THE FEELS for my story! Proofreading is so much more relaxed.
As I was trying (and failing) to fall asleep Monday night, I got my first concept proof back for my cover!!! OMG!! I love it. I so can’t wait to hug my book in person! 😀
February is going to be fun month. Of all the years and months to get picked for jury duty, I get picked for February. I also get to set up all my accounts and do formatting and contact people to help me spread the word. Not going to lie, kind of dreading it. But then, I totally dread editing, and I love that crap! So maybe it won’t be as stressful as it sounds. Or maybe I’ll just get up super early all month. It’s amazing how much a person can get done when they get up before 10:00.
