Anniversary Extraordinaire

This month not only represents the anniversary of my first ever finished novel, but it’s also my blog’s anniversary: three years at the end of the month! Also, I passed 200 posts not too long ago, so Yay. 🙂

I’d thought I’d celebrate by sharing an excerpt from my very first novel!! Only, I can’t read it without laughing. Also, like, why would I do that to people? It’s so bad. So instead, I’m going to bring you an excerpt from the very first novel I queried! Yay. Lol!

This was a vampire story. Most of my stuff before 2008 are. The concept was that a girl with a terminal illness (that I made up, haha) meets some vampires, and they turn her to save her life. However, the girl in question loses her ever-loving mind and kills a bunch of people when the power goes to her head. Lol! It’s one of my favorite pre-college stories, if not THE favorite.

Warning, I literally just scrolled through the document and copied the page I landed on. My old stuff always makes me laugh. This is no exception, though it’s not necessary supposed to be funny. Enjoy. And try not to judge me too much. 😛

Set up: The POV was all over the place. There was Fiona, technically the main character – Ares, the other main character – Beverli, Fiona’s older sister – and a few scenes from the story’s antagonist, Neco. (I picked it because he’s a vampire…get it? LOL! hangs head) Anywho, Fiona and Beverli live with their Aunt Paula, and Laney is a protege vampire made by Ares. In this scene, Fiona, has run off with the antagonist after a fight with Ares when he called her out on her crazy crap and told her she had to stop. The scene starts in the living room of Aunt Paula’s house. I had to backtrack a little bit to make sure I was right, but Aunt Paula and Beverli are talking about how they haven’t seen Fiona all day and they’re worried. The scene is from Beverli’s point of view.

Their conversation was interrupted by a loud pounding on the front door.

“Who could that be?” Aunt Paula asked.

Beverli hurried to the door and opened it. Ares and Laney rushed in.

“We need to talk to you,” Laney said to her. She shot Aunt Paula a look. “In private,” she added. “It’s important.”

Beverli excused herself and led them both outside to the back yard. “Fiona’s gone.”

     “We know.”

“This is all my fault,” Ares said.

“No, it’s not,” Laney snapped. “Will you stop saying that?”

“What’s going on?” Beverli asked. “How do you know she’s gone?”

Laney reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. “She left us a note. Read it.” She handed it to Beverli who skimmed over the familiar slanted writing.

There is nothing here for me. He has made that perfectly clear. I just thought that I would warn you, even though you don’t deserve it, that he’s coming for you both as soon as I tell him where you are. Which I will. You can thank Ares in advance for the pain you will later suffer. (Page 195 – SUDDEN FURY – Circa 2002)

^_^ I haven’t read this in years! This was fun. Ha, ha.

Anywho, it’s always fun to take a trip down memory lane and remind myself of a few things.

1 – I wasn’t as bad as I thought I was.
2 – I’m a WHOLE lot better than I used to be.
3 – I have always loved writing. Writing funks come and go. This one too shall pass. 🙂

Hey, There’s A Fang In My Soup!

With the promised emergence of Dracula coming to NBC this fall, this vampire fan is once again wildly excited about vampire media. I couldn’t get into the Vampire Diaries (but I wasn’t all that crazy about the books, so no surprise there). I’m sure there are other shows out there with vampires, but sadly I… Continue Reading
