    Mountain of Story Trash

The shelved stories…(dramatic pause) I think about mine sometimes when I can’t sleep, in the hopes that I’ll eventually lull my overactive brain into dream land or learn something from them. Sometimes I think, “What are my reasons for trashing stuff?” Surely┬áthere is a method to the madness. Yes. I would like to pick up the mic and present you with this monologue I wrote to explain. čÖé Back in the day, no one looked at me cross-eyed when I trashed something. Very rarely, someone might say, “Hey, what happened with that story you were writing about the time traveler?” And I’d be like, “What?…Oh, yeah! Dude, no, I gave…

On Covers & Romantic Plot Lines

Let’s cut right to the chase:┬áNew Adult Romance. If I see another generic cover with some random brown-haired guy almost kissing some random girl (of any hair color, but to be honest, they all look the same)…well, there is no good way to end this sentence. I’ve read a LOT of historical romance, folks. And I don’t have a single book on my shelf that has people canoodling each other on the (front) cover. Why I’ll Never Read Mockingjay…Again

When someone first recommend┬áHunger Games┬áto me, I balked. It sounded grotesque, and I wanted nothing to do with it. After my sister read it and promised I would love it, I gave it a chance. My original thought was correct. It was indeed grotesque, but there was something about it that I LOVED.┬áIt stood for something. Not only I was thrilled to see a YA book that didn’t center around some sappy love story, Suzanne Collins as a writer is amazing beyond words, and I honestly don’t think I would be writing regularly again without her. Really. I was that inspired. It was like waking up after a deep sleep…

    O is for Overthinking

This public service announcement is brought to you in honor of the A to Z blogging challenge. ^_^ walks into room. coughs into sleeve STOP You are not doing yourself any favors by thinking things to death. This happens a lot in the writing world. You’re going about your business, and all of a sudden you think, “I wonder if it’s okay for my main character to do this. Are people still going to like her after this? Is she being weak right now? Is it okay for him to save her? I don’t want people to think that I think girls are weak and can’t save themselves.” You know…

Stop Telling Me I Need A Critique Partner!!

Okay. I’m going to be completely honest. I get really irritated when I read writing advice and one of the bullet points is that having a critique partner is a MUST. Everyone is different. You would think that goes without saying because it applies to everything! Unfortunately, people are stupid. They think they way THEY do things, is the ONLY WAY to do things! They think because SOME people need critique partners, it means EVERYONE needs critique partners. Does having feedback when you’re new to writing novels help? OF COURSE IT DOES! Is it a necessity? HELL NO! Look, I love the idea of having a critique partner. But I…
