I wanted to hire a blog designer to make my blog super fancy, but then I was thinking, “What if I want to change the font – is that more money and how long will that take? What if I don’t like it? What if it’s still not what I want?” Blah, blah, blah.
Maybe one day when I get a book deal. 🙂 I did go ahead and contact one person, but apparently I made what I wanted sound super complicated so I had to go and dig up actual sites that had anything similar to what I wanted so she would know it wasn’t something crazy. When she got back to me, she said she could do it, but she also made it sound like what she would do would be super basic – basically, custom menu, header, and background. 😐
So, I was thinking, “Basic? I can do basic by myself.” (Typical me) I had a lot of time to think on a 35 minute or so drive from the AMERICAN GIRL STORE!!! (Yes, this was exciting, Lol!) I’m assuming she could give me a better background than what I could whip up myself, but I was just kind of like, screw it – it’s not that serious. If I do it myself I get the benefit of being able to change it whenever I want. So, I spliced together a new background with the help of PicMonkey.com and Photoshop. I liked my other background – I had been using it for years – I just wanted something…I don’t know…different. Obviously, it’s not dramatically different, and you can’t see it on the mobile site, of course, but it was worth the time it took to make it, and it was significantly less work than I thought it would be. It’s not perfect, but I think I can only see the flaws as much as I can because I know what I did.
The bulk of my time was actually spent trying to figure out why my mobile site looked like crap. The site editor I’m using was all like, “Super easy mobile coding – just click this box!” And I was like, “I DID!!” And then it turned out to be one of my plugins. >.< But it’s okay. I can’t beat myself up. I’m not a web-genius! I can’t be great at everything.
Anywho, I handpicked all of my fonts, aren’t they freaking gorgeous? ^_^ I was definitely in danger of it being a circus, but I reeled myself in after my first attempt made my eyes hurt. I’m happy. I didn’t do much to my other blog outside of some layout changes and fancy fonts. I can see where I might actually be able to use this editor to make a really crazy awesome header with Photoshop if I want to block out a day to figure it out. This was the best I could do in a few hours. That’s a project for the next time I’m between stories.
On a random note: you guys probably don’t know that I can’t eat yogurt without really wishing I hadn’t. I’m not lactose-intolerant – I actually have this really weird (or not so weird) casein sensitivity. So if I have certain kinds of dairy I can’t breathe and get migraines – not worth it. I found this soy yogurt at the grocery store a few weeks ago – Silk – and it’s like SO amazing. I can taste the soy in the vanilla flavor, but it’s still so good. Of course, I haven’t had yogurt in years – which may also be why it’s so good, but I’m excited. 🙂
Also, I wasn’t trying to replace the word count ticker for my story, but I accidentally went to a different site when I updating the word count and decided to go ahead and use it. I hadn’t been using it because it never displayed right before. I don’t know what changed, but I’ll totally take it because I like this one better!
In writing news: Michelle Tran talked me into submitting to Pitch Wars! >.< I figured…it never hurts to try! I don’t lose anything. Just, if I have this moment later where I’m ranting about putting a smidgen of hope in this thing – please remind me that I was okay with it at the time. >.<
And speaking of contests, there is an interesting contest going on at MissSnarksFirstVictim called ON THE BLOCK. I’m still debating on if I’m going to try anything or not. It’s not like I don’t have a lot of good crap to choose from – but I wanted to pass the word along to anyone who might be interested.
In random news: Dance Moms was really weird this season. I think I need to stop watching this show. 😐
