Current WC + CC: 12,248 words, Chapter 6

WIP Issues this week: No issues with the story (yay!), but my body decided it wanted me to get some sleep. So a couple of days I was too tired to write.

What I learnt this week in writing: Always make sure my characters are going to talk to me before I start. I write best when my characters and I work closely & harmonically together. 🙂 Also, outlining as I go seems to work really well for me. I’ve been plotting about 2 or 3 chapters at a time.

What distracted me this week while writing: Alas, the internet. And trying to clear out my bloated DVR before it implodes. (Yeah, I don’t watch anything live anymore, I get SO behind.) But I succeeded in clearing it out enough to make room for my fall shows. (Yay!) But I really need to do a better job on monitoring how long I’m on the internet. It’s a big place. A girl can get lost. Lol!

I gotta say I’m having a blast. I’m discovering some VERY interesting things while I’m writing this. I realized a few days ago that I didn’t have an explanation for a major plot point. I went on with it anyway hoping my characters would tell me when the time was right. I got some answers during my last session!! My characters really have my back. ^_^

I can’t believe the progress I’m making. Seeing everyone else’s progress is really motivating. I tend to slack off and drag my feet so bad at the beginning, a start slow, finish strong kind of person. I’m a little over 30% into my goal of 40,000 words for the month. Yay!

  1. So nice to know your characters helped you figure out your major plot point!I'm a major plotter but sometimes, I still let my characters carry on the story. And yayyy for your achievement so far! Go you! 🙂

  2. Thank you! ^_^I actually wish I could do heavier plotting, but I'm usually working with characters that take the reigns rather I hand them over or not. Lol! Things would just change too much and I was constantly rewriting it.

  3. Haha I'm also a total internet addict! I get lost in there every day! Can totally relate to that."I write best when my characters and I work closely & harmonically together." <— Such a great way of putting it. I'm the same. :)You're doing really well! Seeing others working really does help with the motivation. I'm loving it. Well done and keep it up! 😀

  4. Interesting that you outline as you go! I started with a huge outline, but I've been tweaking it (read: changing scenes completely) as I go, and I like how fresh it keeps things. Maybe I'll try outlining as I go from the very start with a future project.I'm happy to hear that you're having a blast and that your characters have your back–awesome way to put it!-Amanda Shayne

  5. Thanks, Amanda! You should definitely try it. 🙂 I started doing it as I go because as the stories would grow, they would morph into something better than I had planned. I outline by hand so it was a great big mess after a while. And I get little mini breaks every few days whenever I stop to plan a bit more.

  6. I totally agree with you. You are making great progress, those are great numbers since the start. It sounds like you have a character driven WIP which is awesome. Love that type of story. Good luck!

  7. I like when the characters help out. 😉 I am also an internet junkie, but I guess that's why we're all doing the wipmarathon. 🙂 Sometimes it helps to have the inspiration at your fingertips. 🙂

  8. I hadn't heard of the marathon, but this sounds like a total blast! Way to get some words down and learn what works best for you. I like to outline loosely so I know the major turning points, for characters as well as plot, do a little research, spend a week or two hanging out with my characters, then dive. As long as the music is cranked, this works for me. Great to meet you!

Hi! ^_^
