Poem: Where is My Atlantis?

I’ve decided, if I remember, that once a month, the last Thursday of each month, will be poetry week. Sometimes my own if I can dig something interesting up. I used to love poetry. I’ve gotten away from it over it years. Lately, I’ve been getting back into it again.

I wrote this a few years ago when I was trying to start a story with a suicidal protagonist. She wrote song lyrics and poetry that she sometimes performed at an open mic night. It was a lot of fun to get to use some of my poetry and song lyrics from over the years. The story has it’s issues, but it has some of the best characters in it that I’ve ever written. If I ever make it to book 3 in my vampire series (a rewrite of this book), I still want to start it off with this poem. The parts in bold are the parts I kept for the original draft of the story.

Where is My Atlantis?
Will anyone notice that I’m gone?
Will they miss seeing my face?
If God wanted to save me…
Why didn’t he send you to this place?
I tried so hard to make it.
I tried to deal with the pain.
But every morning I woke up,
I was still stuck on this plain.
I cried out to you, you never answered.
I cried out to you, you never came.
Each day my pain was heightened,
Each day I felt the same.
One cut will make it better.
One cut will end it all.
It’s been too long, I cannot wait,
It’s time for me to fall.
Will anyone wonder where I’ve gone?
Will they care if I’m not here?
Death rings it bells for me,
It’s ringing endless, so near.
Will anyone notice that I’m gone?
Will they care they were too late?
If God wanted to save me…
Why did He leave me in this state?

  1. Krystal, this is very edgy…but well written. I think you should submit it to crackthespine.com. They love things with tones as powerful as yours.

  2. Thanks, Randi! I've never given much thought to submitting my poetry, but since I've gotten back into I've been thinking about it a lot more. I'm checking that website out as I type. Thanks for passing it along! It seems to be a little less nervewracking then submitting a story!

Hi! ^_^
